Community Spotlight

What is Community Spotlight?

Columbus Dance Alliance’s Community Spotlight Initiative is a meant to celebrate and illuminate the awesome dance and performance work going on in the greater Columbus metro area. Community Spotlight is a three-fold, artist-led project that utilizes our virtual and person-to-person networks in celebration of the vibrancy and multiplicity of dance and performance art within our community, broadly speaking. As a part of its current design, Community Spotlight include a blog-spot interview featured on our website, and shared over social media and email. We will offer artists the opportunity to “take over” our social media accounts for 24 hours in the days following our release of the feature piece. In addition to the two components above, we invite artists to consider one of the following possible options:

  • For teaching artists, we can arrange for and accommodate a live class to take place virtually, in-person, or a combination of both.

  • For artists currently involved in a creative process, we offer the ability to share a rehearsal live and simulcast on social media.

  • For artists in the early stage of their creative process, we offer space to sit down and participate in a live interview, conversation, etc. on our social media platforms.

Our process also involves sharing information about how best to continue following the work of the artists we feature. Over time, we hope that this project will serve as a living archive of dance and performance art and artists in Columbus and beyond.
